Protealis is actief in de agrarische technologie (AgTech). De onderneming ontwikkelt eiwitrijke en hoogproductieve zaden voor peulvruchten die geschikt zijn voor gematigde Europese klimaatzones. Bij de ontwikkeling van deze nieuwe variëteiten schenkt het bedrijf ook aandacht aan de stikstofbinding. Op deze manier wil Protealis Europese boeren helpen om op duurzame wijze lokale eiwitgewassen te telen en te gebruiken en tegemoetkomen aan de stijgende vraag naar vlees- en zuivelvervangers bij de consument en de voedingssector. Protealis is gestart als een spin-off van het VIB en ILVO en is gevestigd in de biotechnologiecluster in Gent, België.

Ghent start-up Protealis accelerates local soybean development

Ghent, 24 November 2022 - To meet the growing demand for locally grown protein crops, Ghent-based Protealis is developing varieties of soy and yellow pea that can also thrive in northern Europe. The company wants to quickly offer more profitable varieties to European farmers and processors and is therefore investing in its own speed breeding infrastructure. A first for legume crop breeding in Europe.
